ABDP Leads County-Witnessed MoU Signing to Strengthen Market Access for Ngeri Community Cages
The Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP), in partnership with the County Department of Blue Economy, Fisheries, Mining, and Digital Economy, today oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Rio Fish Farm and twelve fish-farming groups operating under the Ngeri Community Cages in Kaksingri West Ward, Suba South Sub-County.

The MoU designates Rio Fish Farm as the primary off-taker for fish produced by the groups, guaranteeing a dependable market at harvest. This collaboration is expected to enhance income stability, boost commercial competitiveness, and support sustainable aquaculture growth across the region.
The twelve groups, each with 15 members, totaling 180 direct household beneficiaries, have received extensive support from ABDP through the County Government. This support includes cage infrastructure, stocking, feeds, and capacity enhancement aimed at promoting modern aquaculture systems, increasing production, and linking farmers to structured and reliable markets.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Chief Officer for Blue Economy, Fisheries, Mining, and Digital Economy, Mr. Kennedy Ojalla, commended ABDP for championing market-oriented aquaculture interventions. He reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to empowering small-scale fish farmers, noting that such public-private partnerships are instrumental in strengthening the blue economy value chain and improving livelihoods within fishing communities.
